Ekdal completes transfer to Sampdoria

Albin Ekdal has left Die Rothosen after HSV agreed a deal with Sampdoria for the transfer of the 29-year-old midfielder to the Serie A outfit. The Sweden international joined Hamburg in the summer of 2015 and made 57 appearances for the club. “Overall, I had a fantastic time at HSV despite some difficult moments,” said Ekdal. “However, in the three years I was here, it did not always work out the way I had hoped. I always gave my all and I am proud to have worn this famous shirt.” After relegation from the Bundesliga, the HSV board wanted to reshuffle the squad this summer and allowed the midfielder to start looking for a new club.

“I want to thank the incredible HSV fans. It was an honour to be able to play in the Volksparkstadion,” said the midfielder. He has now returned to Italy, where he was formerly with Juventus, AC Siena, Bologna and Cagliari. HSV would like to wish Albin all the best for the future.
