Done deal: HSV sign Brazilian midfielder Walace

The 21 year old Gremio Porto Alegre midfielder has signed a four and a half year contract with the Rothosen and will train for the first time with them on Wednesday.

HSV made a move 24 hours before the January transfer window closed, announcing the signing of Walace Souza Silva from Brazilian top flight side Gremio Porto Alegre. After passing a medical in Hamburg on Monday January 30) the 21 year old defensive midfielder put pen to paper on a four and a half year deal which runs until  30.06.2021. “Walace is a strong tackling and gritty player. We are delighted to be able to play him right away”, said Rothosen sport boss Jens Todt.

The 1,88 m tall defensive midfielder told us: “I am happy to be here in Hamburg. I hope to settle in quickly in order to perform on the pitch. I hope I can help the club in its difficult situation.” Todt added: “We want to help him settle down but we cannot expect too much of him at first. We will give him the time he needs.” The Brazilian international (2 caps) will train for the first time with his new team mates on Wednesday and will wear the number 12 on his back.

Born in Salvador, Walace made his Gremio debut on April 27th 2014 at the age of 19, quickly becoming a first team regular and winning the Brazilian cup in 2016. He has 70 Brazilian top flight appearances to his name and won the gold medal at the Olympic games playing for the under-21s last summer in Rio, appearing in all matches from the final group game until the final. Walace, who has a compatriot at the Volksparkstadion in Douglas Santos has two senior caps to his name for Brazil.
