Montero: "My strength is my personality".
In the HSV.de interview, new loan signing Javi Montero talks about his first impressions in the Rothosen team circle, his state of fitness and his greatest strengths.
In his first training session with the diamond on his chest, Javi Montero, who was loaned out for half a year from Besiktas Istanbul yesterday (Sunday, 15 January), hinted at his strengths without any starting problems: In the spirit of the Spanish football school, the central defender impressed this Monday morning with his great sovereignty in the build-up play and also showed himself to be extremely adept and handy in the duels. A few hours earlier, the 24-year-old had already given his first HSV.de interview - where he also presented himself as astonishingly calm. In the interview, the Sevilla-born Montero explained his first impressions of his new teammates and which qualities he wants to bring to HSV.
Javi, your loan transfer to HSV was finalised yesterday. How did the last few days feel for you?
Of course it was a very intense time, because in the last few hours before the deal was finalised, the transfer dragged on a bit. But now I'm all the happier that everything worked out and that I can start at HSV.
Who or what convinced you to switch to HSV?
The talks with Jonas Boldt and Claus Costa gave me a very good feeling. I can also fully identify with the goals that have been set, which are very ambitious.
You were in the middle of the game with Besiktas Istanbul. At what fitness level are you entering the winter training camp here?
I trained fully with Besiktas and I'm ready to work hard right away. I want to implement coach Walter's instructions 100 per cent.
With you, the coach has gained an important option for central defence. What qualities do you want to bring to HSV?
My personality is my greatest strength. I always want to help my team-mates and I can make my mark with and against the ball. That's my job, and I want to fulfil it.
And, of course, together with your new teammates. How were you received in the team?
My teammates have welcomed me with open arms, which immediately gives me a good feeling. The first impression is definitely very positive.
