Mikkel Kaufmann joins HSV on loan
The 20-year-old Danish striker has signed for HSV on a one-year loan deal from FC Copenhagen.
Centre forward Mikkel Kaufmann has joined HSV on loan. The 20-year-old striker from Denmark has been at FC Copenhagen since January 2020 and will now spend next season in Hamburg. The U20 international completed his medical on Friday (9/7) and then signed his contract at the Volksparkstadion.
“Mikkel Kaufmann is a physically strong player who will provide us with another option up front. Despite his age, he already has plenty of experience at national and international level, although he can still develop. His aggressive pressing will also help us when we’re without the ball,” said HSV sporting director Michael Mutzel. The new signing was also excited ahead of his new start in Hamburg: “I’m really happy that I’ve made this move. I had good conversations with the bosses here and they gave me the feeling that I’ll fit into their system and that they really wanted me. I’m a team player and I want to help the team achieve their aims by scoring goals.”
Aalborg, Copenhagen, Hamburg
Mikkel Kaufmann Sørensen was born on 3rd January 2001 in Hjorring in the region of Nordjylland. After beginning his career in his local area, he joined Aalborg BK aged 14. There, he played for all age groups in the club’s academy, going on to make his professional debut as a 17-year-old in August 2018 in the Danish Superliga. He played 26 more times in all competitions until January 2020, scoring eight goals and creating a further two. His strong performances then earned him a move to FC Copenhagen. He appeared in 37 competitive matches for them (two goals, two assists). The tall striker has also won 23 youth caps (U17s-U20s) for Denmark, netting five times.
