"We'll take the point"
Despite taking the lead against 1. FC Nürnberg, the Rothosen had to content themselves with just a point at home after a 1-1 draw. Read on for all the post-match reaction from Hamburg.
Daniel Heuer Fernandes: We'll take the point. We have to be satisfied with it, because it reflects our performance today. We had envisioned more for ourselves, especially given that we were at home. Today, we just lacked that final edge in terms of our aggression when winning possession and precision in our passes. We've been better in these areas, which we need to be in order to take more than just a point. After taking the lead, we needed a moment to regain our shape when we did have the ball. Too often, we gave up possession easily and lost that positive momentum. We then became more defensive in our approach and lacked aggression in the spaces that opened up. Nürnberg were able to create far too many chances on goal today – that's never a good thing. We needed to be better at keeping things tight at the back, which we have managed to do this season.
"Nürnberg enjoyed several chances, which Ferro did well to keep out." Moritz Heyer
Daniel Elfadli: I wouldn't count scoring goals as one of my strengths, but I won the ball and then saw that I had a lot of open space in front of me. Personally, I'm delighted to have scored. Overall, today's performance wasn't satisfactory. 'Ferro' rescued a point for us, so huge compliments to him. Obviously, we now have a duty to do better next time. We have a lot of quality in our team as well as a deep squad to draw from and we have to be capable of compensating for absences. We need to act differently on the pitch and show a different side to ourselves in order to win games. In particular, we need to shut our opponents down – we afforded them far too many chances today.
Moritz Heyer: Nürnberg had a couple more shots, even though we could have won the game 2-1 if we hadn't been denied by the post. In the end, it might be a bit of a fortunate point, but we will obviously take it. We'd obviously hoped the game today would end differently, but it wasn't our best performance. We were able to get off to a good start, but Nürnberg were then able to gain the upper hand and enjoyed several chances, which 'Ferro' did well to keep out. It's never easy when you haven't played in a while. I tried to accept the situation as it is. I always give everything in training, which is the most important thing.
"Luck just isn't on our side at the minute." Steffen Baumgart
Steffen Baumgart, HSV head coach: We were in control for the first 20 minutes, but were ten forced to replace Ludovit Reis during the first half, on top of all the other absences we have. Nürnberg became the stronger team from that point on, as we started to make too many mistakes. Our goalkeeper made several saves to preserve our clean sheet. If we had conceded again immediately after they made it 1-1, we wouldn't have had any cause to complain. Marco Richter then hit the post, so the luck also just isn't on our side at the minute. Nevertheless, Nürnberg did very, very well, which is why we'll take the point.
Miroslav Klose, FCN head coach: I witnessed a solid performance from my team, in which we were very dominant and managed to create several good chances. I was a little disappointed to only be taking home a point after the full-time whistle went, but that feeling has gradually been replaced with satisfaction at the positive development we've undergone.
