Match Preview vs SC Paderborn
It’s been a long time since a home game at the Volksparkstadion. Paderborn are the visitors this weekend as a busy month of April kicks off.
The Nordderby defeat to SV Werder Bremen feels like along while ago. The last home game at the Volksparkstadion in the 2.Bundesliga. A full month without a home league game sees a relished side ready to face the next challenge against SC Paderborn on the home turf.
It's no secret that the form following the Nordderby defeat hasn’t been great and despite the progression to the DFB Pokal Semi Final, HSV have failed to win since the 2-0 victory over Heidenheim on the 12th February.
Paderborn on themselves haven’t had a overly inspiring start the 2022. The side from Ostwestfalen have only won twice so far this calander year, with victories over Nürnberg and Holstein Kiel, but both were away from home.
No capacity restrictions and home game back in front of the fans. Saturday is setting up to be an exciting day for the football.

Opponents Focus:
The Ostwestfalen side have only recorded two wins in their last 14 2.Bundesliga matches with seven draws during this streak. Lukas Kwasniok’s side have failed to build on their good start to the season which sees them sitting with the middle pack in the table.
It was revealed at yesterdays Press Conference that top scorer Felix Platte along with Jonas Carls and Marcel Mehlem will not be traveling north for the game at the Volksparkstadion. Platte has had to step up his game since the winter transfer of arguably our visitors best player for the past few seasons, Sven Michel, when he joined Bundesliga side Union Berlin.
Late chaos in their win over Kiel last month, a draw to a weakened by covid Fortuna Düsseldorf and a defeat to Jahn Regensburg is definitely a mixed bag of unwated results from Kwasniok’s side and they will look to getting back to picking up three points, with Saturday’s game their first stop.

HSV News:
Following the International break Head Coach Tim Walter announced he has every player back and available to choose from apart from the already long term injured players. Vuskovic, Suhonen, Reis, Vagnoman and Alidou all enjoyed good results over the international break with their respective nations. Reis picked up a knock and returned to the Volkspark early but was given the all clear at training yesterday.
It is the beginning of a hectic month for HSV. Seven games in total, including the upcoming DFB Pokal Semi Final and the rearrange match vs Erzgebirge Aue. Following this month, only two games will remain to finish of the season, so a very important month of matches to follow. But, all focus is and will be aimed towards 13:30 CET on Saturday when Paderborn are the visitors.
On the lead up to the game, in the background, HSV have been making waves in terms of next seasons preparation. Miro Muheim, Maxi Rohr and Moritz Heyer all signing up to long term contracts in the Rothosen!

The Match Facts :
Jatta with interesting minutes played…
At HSV the club's founding year, 1887, is a very often used number that is even successfully taken into account in merchandising. When a statistic throws up this number, it is therefore worth mentioning. And this is the case with Bakery Jatta before the kick-off against SC Paderborn: With the minutes played so far in the 26 games of the season, the winger of the Rothosen has exactly 1887 minutes. An HSV precision landing, so to speak. And who would you wish that on more than Bakery Jatta. He is and remains an HSVer through and through.
Paderborn better away
Even though SC Paderborn have lost two of their last three away games, the Ostwestphalians feel right at home, away from home this season. With 25 points in 13 games, the team still ranks second in the away table behind SV Werder Bremen (26 points in 14 games). This means that SCP has won more than twice as many points in away matches than at home (12). Seven of the nine wins this season have come away from home. In the north, there was a 4:1 in Bremen and a 4:3 in Kiel, as well as a 0:0 in Hannover and a 2:2 at FC St. Pauli.
SCP: Michel's big footsteps
With Sven Michel, SC Paderborn's top scorer (14 goals, 7 assists) moved to Union Berlin in the Bundesliga during the winter break. Since his departure, the Ostwestphalians have won only one match (4:3 in Kiel). The question is: Who will fill Michel's shoes? Coach Lukas Kwasniok's team is still very well-stocked on the offensive lines. For HSV, the task is to contain the circles of Felix Platte (8 goals in the season), Kai Pröger (4 goals), Dennis Srbeny (2 goals) or even newcomer Florent Muslija (3 goals after the winter break) as best as possible.
