Match Preview vs Jahn Regensburg
We are entering the finishing line of the first half of the season. Three games to go, Two of them at home. Regensburg are up next.
SV Jahn Regensburg will visit the Volksparkstadion Sunday evening as we prepare to draw out the Hinrunde (First Half of the Season) of the 2. Bundesliga. With an Englische Woche to wrap things up before an extended winter break, both teams will be putting their all into ending on a high. Both teams heading into this one on mixed, could always throw up any sort of match.

Our Opponents:
After reaching their dizzying heights this time last season, Regensburg have been on quite the downward slope, avoiding the relegation play off place with little ease. The same could be said for this season though. Although sitting currently in 9th spot, consistency seems to be the real issue for Mersad Selimbegovic’s side. Despite two victories in their opening two league fixtures (Darmstadt and Bielefeld). Jahn have only managed three victories in their next 12 fixtures. Missing key players from last year like the outgoing Max Besuschkow and Alexander Meyer. Injuries have plagued the squad with key figures like Gimber and Kennedy currently missing plus the whole saga with Star man Sarpreet Singh who can’t play a game for the Bavarian’s until January next year.

HSV Round Up:
The biggest news this week is of course the return of our captain Sebastian Schonlau. Following a two match suspension, Bascho looks set to rejoin the starting XI since he was sent off in the stadtderby defeat. Tim Walter still insists that even with our captain returning; “We want to and have to do better as a team.” During the Friday afternoon Press Conference our Head Coach said “We want to win on Sunday. We are only interested in Sunday. Everything else doesn't interest us.” Walter is keen on focusing on each up and coming games at one time and that starts with Regensburg on Sunday afternoon.

Match Facts:
Goal-filled history:
When the whistle blows for the match between HSV and SSV on Sunday at 1.30 pm, goals are actually guaranteed. When the Red Shorts welcome Jahn to the Volkspark, the average number of goals scored per game is 4.25. The last time the two teams met at the Volksparkstadion, HSV ended up winning 4:1 after winning the previous home games against Regensburg 3:1 and 2:1. And this time? One HSV player in particular is looking forward to the game: Anssi Suhonen. The young Finn has scored 2 goals in his professional career so far - both against SSV Jahn Regensburg.
Unpleasant opponent:
SSV Jahn Regensburg is - as they say in today's football parlance - unpleasant to play against. Expressed in numbers, dates and facts, this means: SSV like to let their opponents play the game and only have 46% possession themselves, but they stand deep and cleverly narrow the spaces - with an average of 21.2 metres, SSV have the smallest distance between their own players. In addition, they disrupt the opponent's flow of play by committing the most fouls in the league, which is clearly visible in the net playing time, which is the lowest in games involving Regensburg (49 minutes). With this unpleasant style of play, Regensburg have managed to play six of their 14 games to nil, which only SC Paderborn has managed more often. However: On less good days, Bayern also like to concede real defeats, such as the 0:6 against KSC or the 0:4 against Fortuna Düsseldorf.
Duel of the goal scorers: Glatzel vs. Albers:
Regensburg's style of play is not designed for offensive fireworks, or to put it in figures: In terms of goals scored, SSV is only in 17th place with 14 goals from 14 games, only Nuremberg scored even less often. Nevertheless, HSV have to watch out, because with Andreas Albers, the Bavarians have a top goal scorer in their ranks, who is now also Regensburg's record goal scorer in the 2nd Bundesliga: 36 goals in 113 games. This season he has already scored 6 times. And: Whenever Albers scores, the Jahn wins. He scored his 6 goals in 4 games, and the Jahn won all 4. In the 10 games without an Albers goal, on the other hand, they only won one. The Albers role at HSV is taken by Robert Glatzel, who since his goal in Paderborn is now HSV's sole record scorer in the second league. It was his 30th goal in the 48th two-league match for the Rothosen, with which he snatched the record from Sonny Kittel. Nevertheless, he is very much looking forward to the upcoming match, because with 9 scorer points (4 goals, 5 assists) Kittel was more successful against no other club than against Regensburg.
