Match Preview vs Fortuna Düsseldorf
Club football is back and we start the weekend of with an away trip to Fortuna Düsseldorf on Friday evening.
The two weeks have dragged in but HSV will finally take to the pitch once again in league action this Friday. A trip to Fortuna Düsseldorf starts off the weekend in the 2. Bundesliga as the return to club football commences. HSV will wear the special Supporters club jersey during this weekend’s match to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the HSV Supporters Club. Robert Glatzel and Bakery Jatta scored the goals during the reverse fixture when the three points were held at the Volksparkstadion and Tim Walter will be looking to get the team back to winning ways on Friday evening.
Our Opponents:
Under former HSV Head Coach Daniel Thioune, Düsseldorf have been there or there-abouts heading to the luxurious playoff position in the table. Currently sitting in 4th place but seven points adrift in a tight battle with the next few teams below. A spirited side since the Rückrunde with only two defeats since the restart from the World Cup. Last time out before the international break, a thrilling 2-5 victory away in Rostock tells the tale of a side ready to try and join the promotion battle once again. Striker David Kownacki will be one to watch out for, 11 goals and 8 assists for the Polish striker this season as Fortuna seem to have found there answer to a goal scorer outside of Rouwen Hennings.
HSV Round Up:
With league action back no fewer than nine HSV players return from some successful trips with their national sides. Ludovit Reis got on the scoresheet for the Netherlands U21, Valon Zumberi captained the Kosovo U21s while Benes, Nemeth and Suhonen made minutes for the Slovakian, Hungarian and Finnish National teams respectfully. Now back in training, full focus sits on the upcoming fixture on Friday evening which a bumper away following is expected to attend. Sebastian Schonlau despite making his comeback against Kiel will miss out due to a yellow card suspension and will therefore be reliant on our young defenders once again in Düsseldorf.
Match Facts:
Glatzel always scores against Fortuna as an HSVer
With 22 goals last year and currently 16 this season, top scorer Robert Glatzel is the first Hamburg player since Ivica Olic to score in double figures in two consecutive seasons. Most recently, "Bobby" failed to score in 4 of the last 5 games, but the centre forward always scored against Fortuna Düsseldorf, scoring a total of 4 goals in 6 2. Liga duels with the Rhinelanders.
More than 15,000 HSVers in Düsseldorf
Dinner is served in two senses: Hamburger SV will play in a special jersey on Friday evening to mark the 30th anniversary of the Supporters Club and will be supported by more than 15,000 HSVers in Düsseldorf. Tremendous support! In doing so, the HSV supporters will ensure a sell-out crowd at the Merkur Spiel-Arena for the first time since 2019.
Düsseldorf with a run
Düsseldorf have recently had their best run this season, remaining unbeaten for 4 games in a row for the first time (3 wins, 1 draw). As a result, Fortuna have jumped to 4th place in the table - their best position since Matchday 10. Nevertheless, Thioune's team is still 7 points behind relegation place 3, which is currently occupied by HSV.
