Marco Richter joins HSV on loan
Versatile 26-year-old attacker arrives from Bundesliga side 1. FSV Mainz 05 on a season-long loan.
Hamburger SV have strengthened their squad in the final week of the summer transfer window by signing Marco Richter. The 26-year-old attacker, with the experience of 176 Bundesliga games to his name, has joined on loan for the 2024/25 season from 1. FSV Mainz 05. Richter completed his medical at the UKE Athleticum on Tuesday (27th August) and then signed his contract at the Volksparkstadion. “Marco and I know each other from our time together with the DFB. We’ve never lost contact and I’ve always followed his progress,” explained board member for sport Stefan Kuntz. “Over the last few days, the opportunity to sign Marco on loan came about at short notice.” Claus Costa, director of professional football, added: “Marco is a versatile attacker, and his best attributes are his determination and his eye for goal.”
Experience and versatility
Marco Richter was born on 24th November 1997 in Friedberg. He played for both the academies of FC Bayern (2004-12) and FC Augsburg (2012-16), making his Bundesliga debut for FCA on 14th October 2017. Richter has played 176 games in Germany’s top flight for FC Augsburg (until 2021), Hertha BSC (2021-23) and most recently 1. FSV Mainz 05, scoring 24 goals and recording 19 assists. The flexible attacker also played three times for Hertha in the second division last season before his move to Mainz. Richter, who will wear the number 20 shirt at HSV, commented: “I’m really happy that this transfer has been completed. I can’t wait to play in front of the fans at this ground. I want to help HSV with goals and assists, and I’ll do my best for the club.”
