Love Hamburg - Hate Racism: "Get involved"!
On today's International Day against Racism, HSV remembers Mehmet Kaymakcı and Ramazan Avcı, who were murdered by right-wing HSV fans in the 1980s. Their own exhibition can be used for educational purposes.
Today, 21 March 2023, HSV celebrates the International Day against Racism together with the members and divisions organised in the DFB. This was first established by the United Nations in 1966. Under this year's motto/hashtag "Get involved", HSV remembers Mehmet Kaymakcı and Ramazan Avcı, who were murdered by right-wing HSV fans in the 1980s.
In spring last year, the exhibition "Ins rechte Licht gerückt - der Einfluss von rechts auf die HSV-Fanszene der 1980er Jahre" was presented to the public in cooperation with the Netzwerk Erinnerungsarbeit and the HSV Supporters Club after long preparatory work as part of the International Weeks against Racism 2022. Based on extensive research material, the special exhibition documents the power relations in the Westkurve at the time, the influence of individual players and the structures and ideologies of the extreme right on the HSV fan scene. Among other things, it deals with racially motivated murders and violence as well as the emergence of the hooligan scene at HSV in the 1980s.
Today's day of action will also be used to inform people that the exhibition can be borrowed from HSV and used for educational purposes. Interested parties are welcome to contact the HSV Museum (museum@hsv.de).
After consultation with the Initiative in Memory of Ramazan Avcı, which is also in contact with the relatives of Mehmet Kaymakcı, HSV would like to draw attention to the Hamburg Alliance Against the Right.
