Looking ahead to Regensburg
HSV are busy preparing for Sunday's league game against Jahn Regensburg. Dompe and Elfadli were able to complete the full session with the team on Tuesday.
After a few days off at the tail end of the international break, the Rothosen have resumed preparations for their upcoming Bundesliga 2 clash at home against SSV Jahn Regensburg on Sunday (15th September, 13:30 CEST). Head coach Steffen Baumgart was able to welcome a fairly large group of players to today's session, with the exception of the five still away on international duty. A total of 20 outfield players and three goalkeepers took part, as did Jean-Luc Dompe and Daniel Elfadli, who are continuing to work their way back to full fitness. Bakery Jatta, who has been sidelined with an ankle injury since mid-August, is still training individually with fitness coach Sebastian Capel.
Special guests at the training ground
Board member for sport Stefan Kuntz watched on as the players completed a nearly hour-long session at the Volkspark. The team will train a further four times ahead of Sunday's home game against Regensburg, as the players seek to earn a spot in the matchday squad. The level of competition within the team is fierce – not only has captain Sebastian Schonlau returned from suspension, but deadline day signings Lucas Perrin and Emir Sahiti have also joined the mix. Davie Selke and Marco Richter are also competing for spots in the team, giving Baumgart plenty of options to consider ahead of this weekend.
A few players stuck around after Tuesday's session had officially finished to take part in a special challenge against the HSVH handball players. The team were visiting the Volkspark in order to complete the second part of a YouTube challenge that involved taking to the pitch for some football – a good way for the Rothosen to bring some fun into the days of hard work ahead of them.
