Jean-Luc Dompe extends contract with HSV
The 29-year-old Frenchman will continue to turn out in HSV colours after extending his contract with the club. Board member for sport Stefan Kuntz described the left-winger as having been “a key presence in our team for a long time.”
Jean-Luc Dompe has sent out an important message ahead of the final four games of the campaign by extending his contract with Hamburger SV, which was originally set to expire at the end of the season. The 29-year-old Frenchman joined from Belgian side Zulte Waregem in August 2022. Since then, he has not only become a fan favourite because of his dribbling ability and explosive style of play, but also a key part of the side, in particular because of his goal involvements. He has scored 14 goals and provided 31 assists in his 88 competitive matches for the Rothosen so far.
“First and foremost, Jean-Luc sets an example with his performances, and, particularly in the last half year, has improved in terms of his defensive work. Notably though, he is also aware of his importance in the dressing room. He’s matured here and he helps young players to integrate. He’s always got a smile on his face and a mischievous sense of humour, and has been a key presence in our team for a long time,” said board member for sport Stefan Kuntz.

“Jean-Luc can decide games, whether it’s through his dribbling, crossing or finishing. He’s shown his special qualities in the final third again and again. Jean-Luc has taken on responsibility and thrives off the trust put in him by the team. He’s increased in effectiveness even more over the past few months, including because of his strong relationship with Merlin Polzin and Loic Fave’s coaching staff,” added Claus Costa. The former France U20 international has stepped up his game over the last half year. Since Polzin and Fave took charge of the team, Dompe has displayed his qualities consistently and in an impressive manner. His 15 goal involvements (five goals, ten assists) speak for themselves.
“I’ve taken the team, the club and the fans into my heart” - Jean-Luc Dompe
“I want to keep bringing happiness to the HSV faithful, set an example with my performances and help us to achieve our goals. HSV are now the club I’ve played for for the longest in my career. That too shows how much I’ve taken the team, the club and the fans into my heart,” said Dompe.
Before his time in Hamburg, the Arpajon-born man had never spent more than two years at one club. He has not only made more appearances for HSV than any of his other teams, but also scored more goals and provided more assists. Dompe is currently having the best season of his career in terms of goal involvements, with eight goals and 12 assists under his belt. He will now be continuing his development with the Rothosen.
