Javi Montero to leave HSV after loan deal not extended

After half a season, Javi Montero and HSV have parted ways again. The Spanish centre-back joined HSV on loan from Besiktas in January 2023 after 42 first division appearances in Spain and Turkey and played a total of five games for HSV in the second half of the season. Unfortunately, the former Spain U21 international’s time at the club was not always marked by success, receiving two yellow cards in the games against Karlsruher SC (matchday 24) and Fortuna Düsseldorf (matchday 26), which didn’t make the 24-year-old’s start to his time in Hamburg any easier.

Nevertheless, Montero always gave everything and put 100 percent in for the team, finally showing his quality once again in the second-leg of the promotion play-off against VfB Stuttgart, his last match for HSV. Hamburger SV would like to thank Javi Montero following the expiration of his loan deal and wish him all the best in the future, both on and off the pitch.
