"A great cup tie"
HSV overcame Arminia Bielefeld 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw to reach the last 16 of the DFB-Pokal. Here’s the reaction to the game.
Laszlo Benes: Our goal was obvious. We wanted to win the game and get to the next round and that’s what we did. The fans were amazing from the first second to long after the final whistle and for that I would like to say thank you on behalf of the team. I have to say that I thought that we’d have closed out the game earlier, but Bielefeld defended really well and were compact. We have to be more consistent in front of goal and our final balls have to be better; we’ll work on that the last balls have to come better. We will work on that.
Miro Muheim: Even though we only scored one goal, we were the better side and created many chances. However, we sometimes lacked accuracy in our crosses and the final ball. We have to make sure that we get more shots on the opposition goal. However, we are one round further and that’s what matters.
Matheo Raab: It was a great cup tie. A nighttime game away from home, with a great atmosphere and our fans behind us, it was really fun. Pure emotion, pure joy and I'm very happy that I was able to help the team today. For the penalty shoot-out, Sven Höh had put a note on my water bottle with an analysis of the penalty takers. For the penalty that I saved, the analysis said that I should make my own decision. It was just instinct; I thought to myself that nobody had gone down the middle so far. .
"First and foremost, we send our best wishes to the fan in the stands." - Tim Walter
Tim Walter: First and foremost, we send our best wishes to the fan in the stands. I hope that everything goes well and from HSV, we wish all the best.
On the game: I think we started very well and had a good chance which we unfortunately didn't take. We were unlucky to fall behind. Nevertheless, we kept playing our game and were dominant. In the final third we weren’t consistent, which is something that we’ve struggled with recently. However, we persevered. We know that it can go down to the wire here. We got a bit lucky in the penalty shoot-out, but we deserved the win.
Michel Kniat: Congratulations to HSV, who deserve their place in the next round. Looking at the game, I can say that we caused the opposition some problems. Sometimes you can’t defend quality, so we had to come up with some solutions and that worked well. We could have turned the game in our favour, but we knew that we were going to have to defend with everything from the first minute and we held them to one goal in 120 minutes of football. I am very proud of my team.
