HSV Winter Schedule: 1. FC Köln, Indoor Tournament and Sotogrande
After training restarts on 2nd January, the Rothosen will play a friendly against the Bundesliga club on 7th January, and take part in a indoor tournament in Gummersbach. The wintertraining camp will be held in Spain from 11th-19th January.
The HSV professionals are in the well-deserved winter break. Taking into account their individual training schedules, the main aim for the players in the coming weeks is to recharge their batteries, recover their minds and souls, and turn their thoughts to other things, such as family and friends, so that they can then get back into the swing of things punctually from the beginning of January. The preparation for the second half of the season begins for captain Sebastian Schonlau and Co. on January 2 with the start of training at the Volksparkstadion. The other cornerstones of the winter schedule are now in place until the first competitive match.
Friendly match against 1. FC Köln
After five days of training at home, head coach Tim Walter has already scheduled the first endurance test of the preparation for his boys. On January 7 at 3:30 p.m., the Red Shorts will face 1. FC Köln. The test match against the Bundesliga team will take place at Franz Kremer Stadium, not far from the Geißbockeim at RheinEnergieSportpark. Tickets for the match in the 5,457-seat stadium will be available through FC. In addition, Deutsche Telekom will broadcast the match free-to-air on the HSV partner's sports channel.
Indoor Tournament in Gummersbach
Just one day after the outdoor test, HSV will take to the indoor arena. At the "schauinsland reisen Cup 2023", the Red Shorts will be playing for a good cause at the SCHWALBEarena in Gummersbach on January 8. In addition to the Hamburg team, Karlsruher SC, Górnik Zabrze, Rot-Weiss Essen, 1. FC Kaan Marienborn and Blau-Weiss Lohne will also be taking part. As a special highlight, there will be a celebrity match between the team of celebrity chef and HSV fan Steffen Henssler and a selection based around former Cologne professional and national player Lukas Podolski. The entire indoor tournament will be broadcast by Sky Sport News.
Training Camp in Sotogrande
HSV will then move into its training camp in Sotogrande from January 11 to 19. In the southern Spanish region of Cadiz, the foundation for a successful second half of the season is to be laid. The Red Shirts will train on the grounds of the Santa Maria Polo Club Sotogrande. Two test matches are also planned as part of the training camp, but have not yet been finalized.
After the return to Hamburg, there could be another friendly match as part of the training days in the Hanseatic city, before the start of the regular season on January 29 against Eintracht Braunschweig (kickoff: 1:30 p.m.) at the Volksparkstadion at home, when the team will once again be competing for points in the 2nd division.
