HSV win 5-0 at home against Regensburg
Goals from Königsdörffer, Glatzel, Selke and Dompe (2) saw HSV beat promoted side Jahn Regensburg to remain unbeaten at the Volksparkstadion this season.
Hamburger SV convincingly defeated SSV Jahn Regensburg 5-0 at home on Sunday (15th September). Around 54,000 fans were in attendance to see Königsdörffer head HSV into the lead in the first minute of the game. Glatzel added a second soon after, before late goals from Selke and Dompe (2) sealed all three points. The Rothosen are now on 10 points after the first five matchdays, a start that the fans showed their appreciation for after the final whistle.
A perfect start for Hamburg…
HSV coach Steffen Baumgart made just two changes to the team that beat Preußen Münster 4-1 at home before the international break. Captain Schonlau (back from suspension) and new signing Richter replaced Pherai and Karabec, who had both been in action for their national teams over the past week. The Rothosen began brilliantly and scored after just 45 seconds.
Elfadli played it to Balde and his cross was headed in by the unmarked Königsdörffer for 1-0. Balde continued to threaten down the left wing and set up HSV’s second goal too, this time for Glatzel, who had had a shot cleared off the line a few minutes prior. It was a perfect start for the hosts, though Regensburg looked to have made it 1-1 at one stage. Kother’s goal, however, was chalked off by VAR for offside. Schonlau produced a fine sliding tackle to deny Viet a chance in the 23rd minute, but Baumgart’s team controlled the game overall, even if the remainder of the first half wasn’t as fruitful as the opening 15 minutes. Despite chances for Richter and Königsdörffer, as well as a Muheim free-kick, the teams went into the break with the score at 2-0.
…and a comfortable win
The second half started somewhat slowly as HSV looked to avoid being caught from counter-attacks and Regensburg struggled to break down the solid Hamburg defence. It took until the 70th minute for either side to really threaten again. The visitors missed two chances and were then punished by HSV. Substitute Dompe made it 3-0 in the 76th minute to effectively decide the game. Despite that, the home team continued to press forward in search of further goals, with the subs in particular looking to contribute. Both Reis and Sahiti set up Selke, who failed to score on both occasions. However, his third chance, a header from Dompe’s cross, did hit the back of the net for 4-0 (89’). It was Selke’s first goal for the club at the Volksparkstadion, one that he clearly enjoyed given his celebration. Dompe put the icing on the cake in injury time, curling one into the far corner to make it a perfect afternoon all round. The Rothosen remain unbeaten at home this season and have now won their last two home games, scoring nine goals in the process – giving their fans plenty to celebrate on Sunday afternoon.
