HSV sign Guilherme Ramos
Portuguese centre-back joins on a free transfer from Arminia Bielefeld, putting pen to paper on a deal valid until 2026 in Hamburg.
Hamburger SV have completed their first signing of the summer. Guilherme Ramos has arrived in Hamburg on a free transfer from Arminia Bielefeld, agreeing a contract valid until 2026. The 1.91m tall centre-back now wants to take the next step in his career after appearing 13 times in the Bundesliga and 23 times in the second division for Arminia over the last two seasons.
Ramos, who featured for Portugal U18s in his youth, began his career back home at Sporting CP’s academy. The defender played for Sporting’s U17s, U19s and U23s before spells in the second division with CD Mafra and CD Feirense. He moved to Germany in 2021 in his first spell abroad. “The club made it clear right from the start that they wanted me here in Hamburg and told me the kind of role I will have, as well as how I can help the team’s defence with my strengths,” said Ramos.
"Gui’s positive personality and energy is impressive”
Gui, as he is also known, added: “My conversations totally convinced me. HSV are also a big club and I’ve experienced the unbelievable atmosphere at the Volksparkstadion before as an opponent. I’m now really looking forward to playing there as a HSV player and being a part of this team.”
Director of professional football Claus Costa is pleased with the club’s first summer signing: “We’ve known Gui for two years now. We’ve followed him since his arrival in Bielefeld. He settled in really quickly in Germany and has developed nicely. He impressed us in the second half of the season in particular with his positive personality and energy, up until his shoulder injury five matchdays before the end of the campaign. We’re happy to now have his pace and physical strength in our team ahead of the new season.”
