HSV sign Aboubaka Soumahoro
19-year-old Frenchman joins from Paris FC. "He is an immediate reinforcement to our squad," said Stefan Kuntz, board member for sport.
Hamburger SV have brought in France U20 international Aboubaka Soumahoro shortly before the close of the winter transfer window. The 19-year-old centre-back joins from Paris FC and will provide an additional option in defence for HSV, following the departure of Lucas Perrin (loaned to Cercle Brugge) and a long-term injury to Noah Katterbach (ACL). Soumahoro is able to feature both as a centre-back or as a full-back. "Aboubaka is an immediate reinforcement for our squad. He is able to feature in a variety of positions in defence and is already a well-rounded player, despite his young age," said Stean Kuntz, HSV's board member for sport.
Soumahoro has put pen to paper on a long-term contract with HSV. "Aboubaka is an all-round defender who takes an active role in contributing to the build-up and to his defensive work," said Claus Costa, HSV's sporting director. "It's a great fit for our style of play and our idea of how we want to play. He also still has plenty of potential left to develop."
Soumahoro was born on 4th February 2005 in Paris and began playing football for Chantiers Paris UA and VGA Saint-Maur, before joining the Paris St. Germain academy as a 14 year old. He featured for the club's academy sides up until U17 level before moving to Paris FC in summer 2021. Soumahoro made his professional debut for the club on matchday 1 of the 2024/25 season, going on to feature a total of 14 times for Paris FC in Ligue 2. He has also been capped six times for the France U20s.
“I am really pleased to have made this transfer and feel proud to have been shown this faith by those in charge at HSV. I want to join up with the team as soon as possible so that I can get out on the pitch and help this club achieve its goals,” said Soumahoro. HSV’s new number 22 completed medical checks in Hamburg yesterday (2nd February) before attending the home match against Hannover 96 at the Volksparkstadion. The left-footed player will take to the training pitch for the first time with his new teammates today (3rd February).
