HSV Focuses on Energy Saving

The Club reacts to energy crisis and decides on several measures for the coming weeks and months.

The energy crisis is preoccupying the whole of Europe and, of course, does not stop at professional football. In recent weeks, HSV's managers have been intensively addressing the issue, identifying potential energy savings and reviewing and deciding on appropriate measures.

In addition to the already mandatory implementation of ordinance requirements - no exterior lighting of buildings with the exception of security and emergency lighting, no operation of illuminated advertising installations from 10 p.m. to 4 p.m. the following day - HSV has decided on several measures that will be effective in the short term, some of which are already being implemented. For example, the air temperature in the offices is being lowered, and recommendations and tips for conserving resources in individual day-to-day office life have also been distributed internally.

"As part of our holistic approach to sustainability, we also focus on the responsibility of each and every individual for the sustainable use of resources," says Marieke Patyna, who, as Chief Strategy, People & Sustainability Officer, is also responsible for sustainability issues in the name and spirit of the rue.

The greatest potential for savings exists in and around the Volksparkstadion. As a result, outside match days, the stadium areas that are used less will be lit, ventilated and heated less. During the World Cup break starting in mid-November, HSV will dispense with additional lighting and heating of the stadium turf, and heating of the training pitches will also be decisively reduced.

"We are all aware that we are talking about an overall social responsibility to save energy. Accordingly, all areas, including sports, were also consistently included in our considerations and implementation planning," says board member Jonas Boldt. The reviews are now taking place on an ongoing basis so that further changes and adjustments can be introduced in the fall and winter months if necessary.
