HSV extends contracts with Hrubesch and Costa
The Rothosen are continuing to forge links between the youth and professional sectors and are retaining proven sporting managers.
Hamburger SV has extended the contracts with Horst Hrubesch and Claus Costa. Costa has been working for HSV as Head of Scouting since 2019 and will serve in the role of Director of Football Operations & Recruiting in the future. Strategic squad planning and scouting will remain the focus of his responsibilities. Costa will be responsible for squad management regarding transfers, contract extensions and players on loan in close consultation with Jonas Boldt. At the same time, the 38-year-old will also act as a close contact person for the professional coaching team led by head coach Tim Walter, and in this role will also further intensify the links with the youth sector.
Horst Hrubesch, whose contract was also extended, has been in charge of the youth team since 2020. Under Hrubesch's leadership, many talented players have recently made the leap from their own youth teams to the professional ranks. Tom Sanne even scored his first professional goal this season, and Valon Zumberi, Omar Megeed and Bent Andresen, three more players from HSV's youth teams, made their debuts in the 2nd Bundesliga this season.
"The contract extensions with Horst and Claus are the logical and consistent continuation of our goal of gaining players with development potential for us through strategic squad planning and, ideally, to further increase the permeability from our youth teams. We are therefore very pleased that we will continue to work in this constellation, which is both proven and future-oriented," says HSV board member Jonas Boldt.
