HSV extend Bakery Jatta’s contract until 2029
HSV have extended Bakery Jatta’s contract by five years and are looking forward to more years together.
Hamburger SV have extended Bakery Jatta’s contract, which was originally set to expire at the end of the season. The Gambian, who has played for HSV since 2016, has put pen to paper for an extra five years at the Rothosen until 2029. “Bakery is a very important presence in the team, both on the pitch and in the dressing room,” said HSV director of professional football Claus Costa. “He’s become an important member of the side with his way of playing football and the fact that he lives and breathes HSV. He’s won and really deserves the respect and affection of the fans.”
“I’m thankful and want to repay the club”
Jatta came to Germany from the Gambia in 2015, trained with HSV’s first team for the first time at the start of 2016 and signed his first contract in summer 2016. Since then, the pacy winger has appeared 16 times in the Bundesliga, 160 times in the 2. Bundesliga and 15 times in the DFB-Pokal for the Rothosen. He has managed a total of 27 goals in the process, but even more so than these strikes, fans have been won over by the 25-year-old’s hunger, work rate, commitment and identity. “HSV is my life and Hamburg is now my home,” explained ‘Baka’. “When I arrived here, the people in and around the club took me in, gave me a home and always supported me. I’m very thankful for that and want to repay them in every game.”
“I’m a part of HSV and HSV is a part of me”
He will now have further opportunities to do this, as Jatta has not only committed to the club for the second half of the campaign, but for multiple seasons to come: “I’m a part of HSV and HSV is a part of me, which is why I decided to extend my contract on a long-term basis. We still have a lot to achieve together and I absolutely want to be a part of that. I’m thrilled that HSV, the staff, my teammates, and, of course, the fans, have put their trust in me. I’m really excited about my contract extension and my future with the club.” HSV's longest-serving first-team player after goalkeeper Tom Mickel will remain on board until 2029. “We’re very pleased to have come to this agreement,” explained HSV’s director of sport Jonas Boldt. “Baka decided to commit to HSV, despite having other lucrative offers. This is proof of his character and close bond to the club. We’re happy to have such a great player and person at HSV for the future.”
