HSV beat FC Nantes 4-2 in friendly at training camp
The Rothosen beat French side FC Nantes 4-2 in their friendly in Austria. Heyer, Hadzikadunic, Balde and Jatta were the goalscorers for HSV.
Hamburger SV played the first friendly of their training camp in Bramberg am Wildkogel, Austria on Saturday, 20th July. The Rothosen came back from 2-0 down to win 4-2 against French top-tier side FC Nantes, who won the Coupe de France as recently as 2022.
The two clubs agreed to play the match over 120 minutes, divided into two hour-long halves. This allowed as many players as possible to gain significant match practice. HSV head coach Steffen Baumgart therefore sent out two completely different sides for the two 60-minute periods. Glatzel, Selke, Suhonen and Seifert (all building up their fitness in training), Poreba (back problems) and Raab (a cold) were all rested.
Nantes made the better start to the match in Saalfelden, and were largely in control of the game in the opening stages. Mahamoud scored from a tight angle and Pallois headed home to give our opponents a 2-0 lead inside half an hour, but, over the next 30 minutes of the first period, the Rothosen began to settle and had several chances to score through two efforts from Dompe and a huge headed opportunity for Karabec.
The goals came in the second half, where HSV got their reward for their domination and potency in attack. Two corners from Muheim allowed the Rothosen to get back on level terms. Heyer firstly converted from close range in the 72nd minute, before Hadzikadunic made it 2-2 just ten minutes later. HSV did not settle for the draw though and kept their foot on the gas. A birthday boy then made it 3-2.
Young striker Balde powered forward from his own half following Muheim’s clearance from a Nantes corner, and kept his cool to give his side the lead on his 19th birthday (86’). Jatta then put the icing on the cake in the 98th minute after a nice one-two with Meffert to send the HSV supporters, who had organised a fan bus to Saalfelden from the training camp in Bramberg, home with a smile on their faces.
