HSV appoint Steffen Baumgart as new head coach
The new head coach has taken over with immediate effect and will lead his first training session at 16:00 CET.
HSV have a new head coach. Steffen Baumgart, who was in charge of 1. FC Köln until December 2023, signed his contract with the Rothosen on Tuesday (20th February). The 52-year-old will lead his first training session this afternoon at 16:00 CET. HSV board member Jonas Boldt commented: “Steffen Baumgart is known for his passionate and captivating personality. We now need him to help carry on what we have already started building and to continue to follow the path we have decided to go down.”
Baumgart, who guided SC Paderborn to the Bundesliga in 2019, is excited about his new challenge in Hamburg: “I’m really pleased to be here and I'm looking forward to this challenge. I'm going to get straight to work with the lads. Our aim is clear - we want to get promoted.
A number of familiar faces will be part of Baumgart’s coaching team. Merlin Polzin, Sven Höh and Loic Fave will support the former Bundesliga striker as his assistant coaches.
