Public training sessions
HSV training sessions are open to the public, giving you the chance to see how a professional team trains up close and personal.
HSV prides itself on its close connection with its fans, and one of the ways that this relationship is built upon is the fans haiving access to, and being able to watch, first team training. Almost all training sessions at the Volkspark are held publicly and anyone can turn up to watch a first-team training session free of charge. Naturally, the length of the session depends on the day of the week and at what point of the season the session is taking place in.
Once you get to the Volksparkstadion, follow the signs for the 'Trainingsplätze' (training pitches) round to the south side of the stadium, located next to the Alexander-Otto-Akamdie and behind the Südtribune (South Stand). Once there you can stand on the banked area next to the training pitches to watch the session. After training is completed, the coaching staff and players usually wait in the area between the training pitches and the steps to the Südtribune to sign autographs and pose for pictures for all of the HSV fans who have attended training.
At least one of the last training days before a competitive match is not open to the public. On these days, the path between the academy buildings and the south entrance to the Volksparkstadion is sealed off and the session takes place behind screens to keep away prying eyes. This is not so that the team can train in secret, as this is almost impossible at the Volkspark due to its open environment, but more so that the players can get the necessary peace and quiet before the game. During public training sessions, the players and staff will be happy to sign autographs and take photos with the fans. It is sometimes also possible that the session takes place on the furthest pitch away from the viewing area, meaning that it is difficult to see what is going on. Unfortunately there are lots of reasons why this may happen that we aren't always able to communicate in advance. Apologies in advance if this happens!
