Dynamo Kyiv to play their Europa League home games at the Volksparkstadion

HSV and the city of Hamburg are set to continue their support for those affected by the war in Ukraine. Dynamo Kyiv will play their home games at the Volksparkstadion this season. Their first match is against Italian side Lazio on 25th September 2024.

HSV are continuing to support those affected by the war in Ukraine. After successfully hosting Shakhtar Donetsk’s matches last season, the biggest club in Ukraine, Dynamo Kyiv, will be based at the Volksparkstadion for their upcoming Europa League campaign. Last season’s runners-up in the Ukrainian league are aiming to reach the knockouts with the support of Hamburg.

Just as they successfully did for Shakhtar Donetsk – with three Champions League group games and one Europa League knockout match – HSV will be responsible for the complete organisation of Kyiv’s home games, including ticket sales.

Hamburg’s First Mayor Dr. Peter Tschentscher: “As part of our city pact* for solidarity and future, a number of new connections have been made between Kyiv and Hamburg with regard to politics, economics and civil society. I’m pleased that Dynamo Kyiv will now be playing their Europa League home games at the Volksparkstadion in Hamburg. I wish the team the best of luck.”

HSV are also happy to show solidarity with the club from the Ukrainian capital: “We received a lot of encouragement for our support for Ukraine and are pleased to be able to continue showing our solidarity by hosting another club affected by the war. We are aware of the criticism from the active fan scene, but, at the same time, we believe in the power of sport and the shared values we hold at the Volkspark, which are on clear show with this partnership. This cooperation provides a sporting dimension to the city pact between Hamburg and Kyiv. We hope that we can carry on attracting supporters to the Volksparkstadion for European fixtures and send a signal of support to the people of Ukraine,” said HSV board member Dr. Eric Huwer.

After the contract agreement was signed on Wednesday, Dynamo Kyiv president Ihor Surkis explained how he was looking forward to his club’s games at the Volksparkstadion: “Germany is systematically providing Ukraine with effective support in all areas, and sport is no exception to that. We feel that our team is welcome in Hamburg, that people believe in our team and that we can look forward to proper support from the local and Ukrainian fans there.”

The Europa League – as well as the Champions League and Conference League – will feature a new format this season. Instead of the usual group stage, the competitions will now have a league phase featuring 36 teams, in which each side will play eight different opponents. Clubs will play four home and four away games – guaranteeing at least four Europa League games at the Hamburg Volksparkstadion this season.

Dynamo Kyiv’s home games are on 25th September (Wed, 21:00 CEST) against Lazio, on 7th November against Ferencváros (Thu, 21:00 CEST), on 28th November (Thu, 18:45 CEST) against Viktoria Plzeň and on 30th January (Thu, 21:00 CEST) against Rigas Futbola Skola. Their away games are versus TSG Hoffenheim (3/10), Roma (24/10), Real Sociedad (12/12) and Galatasaray (21/1).

Members can purchase multi-game ticket packages from 10:00 CEST on Thursday (5/9), with the packages going on general sale at 12:00 CEST. Individual tickets for the first home game against Lazio go on sale to members on Monday (9/9) at 10:00 CEST, with general sale again starting two hours later. On-sale dates for the other three home games will be announced in due course and published on HSV’s social media channels. Customers can purchase up to eight tickets. Please note that the terrace tickets in the ‘A’ section of the Nordtribüne are only available to members. Initially, only the lower (‘A’) and middle (‘B’) tiers of the Volksparkstadion will be open for Dynamo Kyiv home games.

* More information: Mayors Dr. Vitali Klitschko and Dr. Peter Tschentscher agreed on a strategic partnership between their cities Kyiv and Hamburg on 24th April 2022, also signing a ‘Pact for Solidarity and Future’. The initial focus of the partnership, with the motto #WeAreAllUkrainians, sees the city of Hamburg – in cooperation with the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce and Hanseatic Help e. V. – look to provide support to Kyiv following the attacks by Russia. The second phase of the partnership will look to strengthen economic, cultural and social relations, as well as support the redevelopment of Kyiv and promote the continued positive development of both cities.
