Daniel Heuer Fernandes signs a contract extension
Hamburger SV have tied their number one Daniel Heuer Fernandes down to a new deal. The goalkeeper’s contract is now valid until 2026.
Hamburger SV’s number one extended his contract on Friday (8th December) until 2026. Heuer Fernandes is the club’s first-choice keeper and a key player in Tim Walter’s system. “Ferro” has been at the club for more than four and a half years now, and will remain on board for the coming three too. “Four and a half years are a long time and I’m proud to be staying for even longer,” said the 31-year-old, who for whom Hamburg and HSV have become a home. “I’m really happy and settled here – playing with this team and for these coaches is really enjoyable. We’ve developed a reala tight-knit group and a buzz around the dressing room. That’s why I was desperate to stay at HSV, where I want to lead from the front and be successful with the team.”
Claus Costa feels Heuer Fernandes’ contract extension is an important move regarding squad planning. The director for professional football praised the “consistency, quality and huge development” of the man who was named Player of the Season by the fans in each of the last two campaigns. “He fits our style of play really well because he’s extremely technically gifted, which is important for our game. As well as that, he is extremely reliable in between the sticks. We’re therefore really pleased that Ferro is staying here."
Heuer Fernandes joined HSV from SV Darmstadt 98 in 2019 and has gone on to play 119 games in all competitions. He has also become a real leader, both on the pitch and in the dressing room. Jonas Boldt, board member for sport and communication, praised this combination, adding “he brings real quality to the pitch and plays an important role off it as well.” The goalkeeper has also worn the captain’s armband at times this season, another example of his important role within the squad.
