Bitter news: Torn cruciate ligament for Tim Leibold
The 27-year-old left-back suffered the injury during the cup match in Nürnberg. Daniel Heuer Fernandes is also injured.
Very bitter diagnosis for Tim Leibold. The 27-year-old HSV left-back tore his anterior right cruciate ligament in the cup match against 1. FC Nürnberg (5:3 n.E.) on Tuesday evening (26 October). This was the result of a detailed examination after his return to the Unfallkrankenhaus Eppendorf (UKE) on Wednesday (27 October). Thus, the dire fear that could have developed yesterday when looking at the TV pictures has unfortunately come true. As a result, the vice-captain will be out of action for several months and will probably not play another game this season.
Leibold had to be substituted in great pain and on a stretcher as early as the 22nd minute after his leg was twisted in an unfortunate duel with Tom Krauß. It was a big downer on what had been a great cup evening at the Max Morlock Stadium, something Tim Walter already confirmed after the game. "The two scenes with the serious injuries naturally dampen our joy and also the spirits of the Nuremberg players, that already depresses the mood on both sides after what was actually a great game," the coach said in the press conference. Two-legged rival Klauß also had to leave the field on a stretcher shortly after half-time after a collision with Miro Muheim with a head injury. "We also wish him all the best and a speedy recovery. In Tim's case, we will do everything we can to support him in the best possible way during the rehab phase," said sport director Michael Mutzel.
Heuer Fernandes also injured
In addition to Tim Leibold, Daniel Heuer Fernandes also left the game against Nürnberg with an injury. Fortunately, the keeper didn't get it nearly as bad. "Ferro" suffered a capsule injury in his knee during the last penalty he managed to hold against Asger Sörensen. He will have to cut back considerably in the coming sessions. Whether he will be able to play against Holstein Kiel on Saturday (30 October, kick-off: 8.30 pm) will be decided in the coming days.
