Amadou Onana is leaving HSV. The 19-year-old midfielder will move to French champions OSC Lille. The two clubs reached a final agreement on Thursday (August 5). The Belgian U21 international already completed his medical check with the French. "We decided a year and a half ago to bring Amadou, a young, highly talented player, to us free of charge and showed him a perspective. The fact that he has now been given the chance to move to a Champions League contender shows that young players can develop here in Hamburg. Of course, we would have liked to keep him at HSV, but given the current situation, it's a win-win-win situation for everyone involved," says board member Jonas Boldt.
Onana joined the club on a free transfer last summer from TSG Hoffenheim's U19 team and developed into a regular in HSV's midfield over the course of the season. The Belgian with Senegalese roots made his professional debut last season in his first competitive match in the DFB Cup in Dresden, where he scored his first goal. This was followed by a further 25 second division games (two goals) for HSV. "We recognized his potential early on and made a great effort to get him. Nevertheless, it was also a courageous decision to immediately earmark him in an important role for the pros. Amadou has made impressive use of his opportunity and now has the chance to prove himself at the very highest level in Lille," says Sports Director Michael Mutzel.
"My time at HSV was short, but insanely intense. I would like to thank HSV for the chance to develop myself and wish the club, all staff and fans only the best for the future," says Onana before his move.
With this move, HSV loses a great talent, but benefits above all economically through the further development in the past twelve months. The entire club wishes Amadou Onana all the best for the future.
