Ricardo Moniz joins the individual coach staff
The 57-year-old is returning to Hamburger SV after eleven years and will work on developing and coaching the top academy talents in his new position.
HSV are welcoming back an old friend to the Volkspark. Ricardo Moniz is the club’s latest addition to the individual academy coach team. The 57-year-old Dutchman, who worked as a technical coach for the Rothosen from 2008 to 2010 and even took charge as interim head coach for three games, is returning to work closely with the top talents approaching senior level and facilitate their transition into the first team. Adacemy director Horst Hrubesch is pleased to have an expert like Moniz join the team: "Ricardo is another important building block in our restructuring of the academy. From his many years of experience in professional and youth football, he knows exactly what the young talents need to compete in at a senior level."
Moniz is also looking forward to his new role and his return to Hamburg: "Returning to HSV after eleven years away is very emotional for me. I experienced a lot here and it all feels like yesterday. The academy work is important, you need to train like every day is your last, giving 200%! 100% is not enough here. That’s what I want to get across to the players as well." When asked about his goals in the new role, the Dutchman has clear visions: "The aim is to discover top talents and create our own here at HSV. A talented player has to be ready at 17 or 18 years of age to stand his ground and show leadership qualities. Otherwise you will have no chance and will not be accepted in the dressing room either. The players need to embody absolute desire and we coaches will give them the belief and confidence to go with it." Welcome back to Hamburg, Ricardo!
