“A fair result based on the teams’ performances”
There were mixed feelings in the HSV camp after the 2-2 draw against Darmstadt 98. In the end though, all involved felt it was a fair result.
Ransford Königsdörffer: We should be aiming to win the game. We didn’t manage to do that today. At the same time though, if we’re honest it’s a fair result. Both teams worked hard and scored two goals. We could have been a bit more clinical in front of goal, and we were also missing a bit of luck and the end when Fadli hit the bar and Davie had that chance. We have to come to terms with that and go again next weekend.
Sebastian Scholau: We should be satisfied with the point based on how the game went. We could have landed the killer blow at the end, but Darmstadt could have as well. 2-2 is okay, even though it was clear that we were desperate to get that winning goal. We had some difficulty keeping the ball in the first half and couldn’t really get a foothold in the game. We made some changes in the second period, moving Miro further into the middle, and we managed to play through Darmstadt more often. Darmstadt though had a lot of impetus too, committed players forward, used their physicality and were dangerous from crosses. We worked tirelessly to counter that.
“I won’t get much sleep” – Davie Selke
Davie Selke: We’ve got mixed feelings. We had some great chances to win the game, including through me. You’ve got to put those away. I’ll work on that. It’s the life of a striker. I won’t get much sleep. I’m an ambitious guy and work on everything meticulously. It was overall though a good performance at home against Darmstadt. We can’t forget that when we’re looking back at the game.
Daniel Elfadli: We can’t be too happy with the result. There was more in it for us when you consider the chances we had at the end. I had a good opportunity myself just before time. It was very disappointing that the header didn’t go in. Darmstadt were very strong opponents who are really flexible in their positioning. That makes them hard to defend against. They showed that again today. We played well though and created good opportunities, so I see it as a positive overall.
Merlin Polzin: It was a hard-fought match where we had to prove ourselves against a very strong Darmstadt team. We had to adjust a few things, but after that we managed to win the ball back again and again in good positions. We managed that for the opening goal and we improved more after that with tactical changes. We were a constant danger. I was very pleased with how much courage we showed until the end. I was particularly pleased with our reaction to conceding the second goal. We have a team who stick together. I’m very happy about that. I’m less happy about how we didn’t manage to score the winning goal despite having good chances. It was a fair result based on the teams’ performances.
Florian Kohfeldt: I have to compliment my team on this performance. It’s been an emotionally challenging week with that late Pokal defeat on Tuesday. I thought we were by far the better team until the 70th minute and were ahead in every statistic. The game became more chaotic at the end. Both teams could have won the match, and it was very open. In my opinion, we would have deserved the win more than HSV.
