Hamburger SV won a last-minute friendly match against Karlsruher SC on Friday afternoon (7 January) and successfully concluded their winter training camp in Spain. In the duel with the league rivals, the Red Shorts won 3:1 thanks to goals from Robert Glatzel (FE, 12th), David Kinsombi (FE, 27th) and Robin Meißner (50th). The only KSC goal was scored by Ricardo van Rhijn (51st).
In ideal conditions at the Marbella Football Centre, which is located about 30 minutes by car from Sotogrande, the Baden team got off to the better start, but missed the early goal. Robert Glatzel did better, converting a penalty awarded by Manuel Wintzheimer in the 12th minute. Even after the first goal of the day, a lively game developed with some exciting penalty area actions, one of which resulted in the second HSV penalty: Thiede hit Kinsombi on the ankle, the fouled player left no doubt about his penalty and scored into the upper left corner (27th). Until the break, the Rothosen lead remained, real tension only arose between the teams, who had some gritty duels.
After the change of ends, it was straight back to business, but now again in the two sixteens. First, an aggressive Kaufmann run-in allowed HSV to make it 3-0 because KSC keeper Markus Kuster, who came on at half-time, played the ball to Robin Meißner's feet under pressure. The Rothosen attacker, who was also substituted, scored from around 20 metres into the bottom right corner (50th). Only a turn of the clock later, however, the ball hit the other side for the first time, as Ricardo van Rhijn pushed a rebound over the line after Schleusener's finish. Many changes of players and the high sun until the end of the game ensured that there were hardly any highlights to watch after the fourth goal of the day. Thus, an informative test match ended with a fair 3:1 for HSV, who seemed more confident in their combination and more defensively disciplined throughout the match.
