2:3 - HSV loses at 1. FC Magdeburg
After last weekend's emotional derby win, HSV cannot follow up and loses its away match at 1. FC Magdeburg with 2:3 despite goals from Kittel and Reis.
Hamburger SV lost their match of the 30th matchday on Saturday (29 April) with 2:3 (1:1) at 1. FC Magdeburg. In front of more than 27,000 spectators in the sold-out Magdeburg Arena, the Rothosen started the game well, but the home side took the lead through Kwarteng (31st), although Kittel was able to make it 1-1 before the break (42nd). After the break, the game was mostly even, but the home side proved to be extremely efficient and made the most of two shooting opportunities through Atik (74th) and Ito (86th) to take a 3:1 lead, which Reis was able to counter in injury time, but in the end, the sixth HSV away game in a row without a win and an extremely bitter 3:2 defeat at the second division promoted team were on the books, which means that HSV is now four points behind second place in the table.
Two goals disallowed ...
HSV coach Tim Walter had to change his starting eleven compared to the derby win, as Meffert was missing from the six-man position due to a yellow suspension. In any case, Walter had a lot of bloodletting to deal with, as Katterbach (cruciate ligament rupture) and Nemeth (ankle fracture) had recently suffered serious injuries and Mikelbrencis was also ill. It was all the more important that the wingers Jatta/Dompe, who were also injured after the derby, were fit just in time.
And it was the two strikers of the Red Shorts who had a great double chance in the 35th minute, which Magdeburg keeper Reimann, however, negated with an almost unbelievable reflex. This Hamburg attack had been the direct answer to FCM's 1:0 lead, which Kwarteng had scored three minutes earlier a little out of nowhere and after a quick counter-attack. Before that, HSV had been the dominating team after a wait-and-see start and had already cheered twice, but both goals after short corners in each case were disallowed for offside. And so the Rothosen suddenly found themselves behind, which did not reflect the course of the game. But the Walter team once again proved its ability to bounce back, continued to play forward, recorded important ball recoveries in counter-pressing through Glatzel and from one of them scored the equaliser through Kittel shortly before the break, which meant the 1-1 half-time score
... and a penalty taken back
From Hamburg's point of view, the second half began with the next upset. After the two disallowed goals in the first half, referee Osmers took back an already given penalty in the 51st minute after a duel between Elfadli and Glatzel, after the VAR had intervened. No penalty for HSV, no possible 2:1 lead, and instead an intense second half, which was characterised by many duels and less by big goal area scenes.
Dompe had the best chance on the Hamburg side in the 73rd minute when, after a fine dribble, the ball slipped over his instep. And as it often happens in football - only a few seconds later, the opponent strikes ice-cold on the other side. In this case, it was Atik, who finished off a counter-attack from the right side to take a 2-1 lead (74) and put HSV under massive pressure. But the Rothosen were unable to turn the tide on this day, instead Ito scored the 3:1 for FC Magdeburg in the final phase with a shot into the far corner, inflicting a painful defeat on HSV - who managed to score the 2:3 in the last minute of injury time through Reis - for the second time this season.
