1:2 - HSV lose friendly against Eintracht Braunschweig
Wintzheimer and Kijewski scored for the visitors in the clash with their league rivals. HSV used many youngsters, while Kittel scored the equaliser late on.
HSV played a friendly match against league rivals Eintracht Braunschweig on Thursday (23 March). At the training ground at the Volksparkstadion, the Rothosen lost 1:2 (0:2) after Manuel Wintzheimer (12th) and Niko Kijewski (19th) conceded goals. Sonny Kittel (88th) scored a late one for Hamburg.
Braunschweig's serene ...
Without the nine internationals who were away, as well as captain Sebastian Schonlau, Jean-Luc Dompe, Filip Bilbija (all stress management) and Miro Muheim (private reasons), HSV coach Tim Walter sent a mix of regular players, reserves and young talents onto the pitch. In this constellation, the Rothosen initially took control of the game with a lot of possession. The Lower Saxons, who were set up in a 4-4-2 system, again scored the effective goals. And they did so twice: First, ex-HSV player Manuel Wintzheimer completed a brilliant counter-attack to make it 1:0 (12th), then Niko Kijewski made it 2:0 seven minutes later after an attack on the flank (19th). The 16th-placed team in the 2nd division was thus in the game, while Hamburg tried to find answers in their own attacking play, but lacked creativity in their offensive actions. It was not until the 42nd minute that Robert Glatzel had the first shot on goal for the Rothosen, but he failed to hit BTSV keeper Ron-Thorben Hoffmann from an acute angle. A short time later and practically at the break, Elijah Krahn missed a top-class chance with his head after a fine Megeed cross.
... and courageous HSV youngsters
Tim Walter brought on Ogechika Heil, Xavier Amaechi, Jesse Kilo and Fabio Balde for the second half, a fresh and young quartet of HSV talents. The guests made double substitutions and continued to be dangerous with their switching actions. But Matheo Raab was able to prevent a greater deficit four times with impressive saves and courageous interventions against Multhaup (46th), Bonga (48th), Endo (49th) and Wintzheimer (53rd). U19 player Balde also acted courageously, dribbling again and again and finishing dangerously twice (63., 70.). The 17-year-old was representative of the many HSV talents from the club's own youth team, who did a very good job in front of numerous employees from the HSV campus and kept the game even. Sonny Kittel (88th) finally scored the final 1:2 with a powerful finish from the edge of the penalty area.
