1-1 draw away in Fürth
Hamburger SV were held to a 1-1 draw away at SpVgg Greuther Fürth, with both teams scoring stunning long-range goals.
HSV shared the points with SpVgg Greuther Fürth on Easter Sunday in front of around 17,000 fans at a sold-out Sportpark Ronhof. The two teams struggled to get going in the first half, before playing a lot better after the break, a half where HSV were the better side. Muheim’s incredible hit in the 56th minute gave the away side a deserved lead, one that Baumgart’s side could have added to were it not for the post and goalkeeper Urbig. They would live to regret not doing so when substitute Consbruch equalised with a fine goal of his own in the 77th minute.
Slow start...
HSV coach Steffen Baumgart, who already had to replace Katterbach, Ambrosius, Van der Brempt and Dompe, was forced into another change to his starting XI just before the game. Robert Glatzel had an issue during the warm-up and therefore couldn’t play – his place was taken by Nemeth. The home team controlled proceedings early on and had two good chances in the opening 15 minutes, albeit both coming after HSV lost the ball. Hrgota profited on both occasions, playing in Sieb (shot went over) and Pektov (shot went wide).
The Rothosen grew into the first half after this slow start and were dangerous via the flanks. The visitors were denied a potential penalty after Nemeth fell to the ground after contact by Wagner in the box. Pherai had the first notable shot (20’), while Gießelmann and Asta produced vital blocks to prevent shots by Jatta and Königsdörffer respectively. An even and pretty uneventful first half ended therefore ended goalless.
...and two stunning goals in the second half
The second half was a much more entertaining affair. Greuther Fürth came out of the blocks quickly, but the Rothosen responded to that fast start in superb fashion! After Nemeth got in behind and saw his shot saved and Jatta headed Muheim’s cross onto the post, Muheim himself broke the deadlock. Benes played the corner short to the left-back and he thumped a stunning strike from around 25 yards out into the top corner!
The goal clearly gave Hamburg more control and confidence, allowing them to dictate the play more too. As a result of this, a second goal should really have been added, particularly in the 70th minute. Jatta did well and played it to Nemeth, however he couldn’t beat keeper Urbig with his effort. Fürth subsitute Consbruch replicated Muheim with a fantastic goal himself seven minutes later to make HSV rue that miss even more. It was a real blow for the dominant Rothosen, who did at least have chances to take the lead again. Nevertheless, Suhonen and Königsdörffer couldn’t find the back of the net and it ended in a draw, certainly not what HSV were looking for on Sunday afternoon.
