0-2 - HSV loses at 1. FC Kaiserslautern
The Rothosen suffer their seventh defeat of the season at the Bentzenberg. Subsitutes Boyd and Opoku scored for the hosts.
Hamburger SV lost the top match of the 28th second division matchday at 1. FC Kaiserslautern with 0:2 (0:0) on Saturday (15 April). In the sold-out Fritz-Walter-Stadion with 49,350 spectators, both teams played an intense duel with few chances in the first half. After the second half, the number of goals increased noticeably, with Terrence Boyd (71st) and Aaron Opoku (85th), both substitutes, scoring the goals of the day.
HSV with the ball, FCK with bite ...
Compared to the 6:1 victory against Hannover 96, HSV coach Tim Walter had to make two changes in the starting line-up: Instead of Moritz Heyer (cold) and Jonas Meffert (calf problems), Miro Muheim and Anssi Suhonen got the starting mandate. The latter also provided the first approach to goal for the blue-clad Hamburg side in the 6th minute when FCK keeper Andreas Luthe deflected his cross over the crossbar. Beyond that, the Red Shorts failed to register another shot in the early stages, but maintained control of the game between the penalty areas with plenty of possession (67:33 per cent) and good counter-pressing. The first top chance of the match belonged to the Red Devils again: Nicolas de Preville suddenly appeared free in the opponent's penalty area after a switching action, but failed to save by Daniel Heuer Fernandes (21.).
As a result, the two teams became more and more equal in midfield, where the home side in particular set the tone in the duels with many small fouls and thus repeatedly interrupted the flow of the game. Hamburg, for their part, made their mark mainly through the right side of the attack and Bakery Jatta, but with the exception of a few half-chances from crosses that Luthe was not always able to defuse with aplomb, remained without any penetrative power. The lively Suhonen still had the best shot at goal, but just missed the target shortly before the break (44th).
... and late goals
After the break, the home side initially came out of the dressing room better. Marlon Ritter (46th, 47th) scored twice within two minutes with a free kick and a turning shot, before Ben Zolinski made some of the home supporters cheer with a shot from the second row, but in the end he only hit the outer net (54th). Shortly after this optical illusion, HSV also felt their way forward again: a Benes corner was headed just wide of the goal by goalkeeper Robert Glatzel (57th), and a Jatta pass was headed humorlessly against the crossbar by Miro Muheim (65th).A fast-paced football match had long since developed on the atmospheric Betzenberg, which only lacked a goal. Substitute Terrence Boyd made up for this by scoring the 1:0 lead with a remarkable heel strike - at the same time the 14th FCK goal from the bench (71).
Tim Walter then relied on his own bench, substituting Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer, Jean-Luc Dompe and Andras Nemeth for all the attacking players one after the other, and finally went boldly "all in". But instead of the hoped-for turnaround, a sub from FCK coach Dirk Schuster brought about the decision: ex-HSver Aaron Opoku, of all people, scored a hand-stopped goal 30 seconds after his substitution to make it 2-0 (84th). This also meant the final score, as Heuer Fernandes prevented a late third goal against Daniel Hanslik (90th).
