It was clear to me that we wouldn’t be letting him go over the summer,” explained HSV’s board member for sport, Stefan Kuntz. “I’m delighted that Meffo is staying at HSV and that we will continue to work together to achieve our goals.”
Claus Costa, director of professional football at HSV, said: “I’ve known Meffo as a player and person for a long time now, and am pleased that we will continue on the same path together. He’s a real team player and a key figure within our team. Our style of play benefits from his reliability and his intelligence as a player.”
Reliable and consistent

It’s something that fills me with pride,” said Meffert, before touching on the the offers that also came in from clubs in England. “Despite the recent lucrative offers, I’ve made no secret about what HSV mean to me. I’m looking forward to getting to play more matches for this club, as we still have shared goals that I really want to help us achieve.”
The Cologne native began his career at the Bayer 04 Leverkusen academy, later enjoying stints at Karlsruher SC, SC Freiburg and Holstein Kiel before arriving at HSV ahead of the 2021/22 season. Since then, he’s featured in 113 of a possible 121 competitive matches for the Rothosen. Meffert’s qualities on the pitch, which include his pinpoint passes, tireless nature and reliability, have had a big impact on the way the club play. The midfielder, who has featured a total of 246 times in the second division, has also taken up responsibility both on and off the pitch, having been part of the team council for several years. He is now hoping to continue bringing these qualities to the pitch in order to help the Rothosen achieve the goals they have set for themselves this season.
