Glatzel and Dompe secure 2-0 away win in Nürnberg
HSV put in a mature performance to seal all three points on Saturday afternoon. Robert Glatzel and Jean-Luc Dompe got the goals for Tim Walter’s men.
HSV picked up their second away win of the season in their final game before the winter break. The Rothosen ran out 2-0 winners on Saturday afternoon (16th December) at 1. FC Nürnberg. The first half at the Max-Morlock-Stadion was an even affair, before HSV scored twice after the break, with the home team hitting the woodwork twice. Robert Glatzel (81’) and Jean-Luc Dompe’s (90+7’) goals mean that Hamburg will be third at Christmas.
End-to-end first half
Tim Walter made three changes to the team that lost 2-1 at home to SC Paderborn last time out. William Mikelbrencis (right) and Nico Oliveira (left) came in as full-backs to replace Miro Muheim (suspended after a red card) and Ignace Van der Brempt (injured). It was the 19-year-old Oliveira’s first start for the club. The other alteration saw Jonas Meffert return from his ban for five yellows, with Lukasz Poreba dropping move to the bench. After a cautious first five minutes, both teams had their first opportunity early on. Bakery Jatta couldn’t get his shot on target at the back post from a corner (6’), while Hayashi volleyed wide for FCN from a Goller cross (8’).
Levin Öztunali’s cut-back in the 19th minute set up a great chance for Robert Glatzel, however the forward couldn’t connect with the cross from a great position. At the other end, Goller was clean through on goal on the halfway line from a quick counter-attack that originated from a HSV corner. Mikelbrencis and Oliveira did well though to get back and deny him a clear shot on goal.
The first half remained an end-to-end affair. Johannes Geis drove a shot against the outside of the post from the outside of the box for the hosts (27’), then Öztunali went close (31’) and Jatta was denied by Klaus from a tight angle (33’). The final notable moment of the first half came when Okunuki sprinted into the box at pace, but missed the target with his shot (45’).
Nürnberg hit the woodwork, HSV the back of the net
Glatzel had the first chance of the second half, attempting to place a shot past the goalkeeper but only hitting it straight at him (46’). Okunuki then cleared the bar from 15 yards out for Nürnberg (49’). His compatriot Hayashi came extremely closing to breaking the deadlock after 57 minutes. The striker dinked the ball over Heuer Fernandes, only to see his chip hit the underside of the bar. Mikelbrencis, attempting to clear it, then headed the ball against the post as HSV were extremely fortunate to not go behind.
Walter introduced Dompe for Öztunali in the 61st minute and that helped HSV to get better. Jatta played the ball to his left to Glatzel and Hamburg’s top goalscorer cut inside onto his right foot, but saw his shot blocked by Geis (66’).
Glatzel was again involved in the 77th minute, dragging a shot just past the post. Four minutes later though, he finally got what he wanted. The 29-year-old chested down Jatta’s cross and picked out the far corner for 1-0 (81’). It was his 12th league goal of the season and a weight lifted off his shoulders. HSV kept things tight in the closing stages and FCN failed to threaten Heuer Fernandes’ goal. In the seventh minute of injury time, a fantastic counter-attack sealed the victory. Poreba passed to Dompe, he dribbled into the box and then beautifully curled it into the back of the net.
