"We fought our way back"
HSV came back from a 3-1 deficit to pick up a point against 1. FC Kaiserslautern on Sunday evening. Here is all the immediate reaction to a spectacular 3-3 draw on 2. Bundesliga matchday 11.
Miro Muheim: My goal to make it 3-3 was definitely a bit lucky. I wanted to play the ball deep into the box and I only realised late on that it was going over the ‘keeper and into the goal. As a team, we deserved to pick up this draw in the end. We fought our way back really well in the second half and always had the belief, even at 3-1 down. We obviously wanted to avoid such an open game with so many counterattacks against us. We have to work on that so that we are better again in rest defence. Still, we gave absolutely everything once again in the second half.
Jonas Meffert: It was definitely a cool game for the neutral and was fun to watch. For us, it went really well in the first 15 minutes. Then we quickly conceded two goals, which turned the game on its head. After that we wanted to turn it around in the second half but then conceded again quite early to make it 3-1. Everyone probably though then that we wouldn’t come back again – with exception of us and our fans! We managed to make a comeback, even if you have to admit that we had a bit of luck in the final stages.
"It was a game that had everything" Robert Glatzel
Robert Glatzel: It was a game that had everything. We deservedly took the lead, but then conceded two goals slightly out of nowhere. After that, Kaiserslautern did well and we lost our style of play, so the 3-1 was also deserved. With a bit of luck, we managed to get it back to 3-3 and all in all, if you look at the final stages, then we have to be pleased with the point.
Daniel Heuer Fernandes: We started the game well, took the lead and had absolute control. What then happened is hard to explain, we completely gave up control of the game. The way that we played at times, can’t be allowed to happen. We were trailing behind a lot and weren’t brave enough. Then at 3-1 the game seemed to be over, but we then managed to achieve what we wanted to do from the start. We showed will and passion and managed to get the equaliser. We fought for this point and with the course of the game and the crazy end to it, we have to live with this point.
"We showed character" Tim Walter
Tim Walter: Appropriately for the setting, the fans saw a great game. As a coach you obviously think slightly differently. We had control of everything after the first goal. We were extremely unlucky to concede the first goal, but kept going and hit the crossbar through ‘Meffo’. In response to this passage of play, we then conceded the second goal through an error from us. After that, we completely lost the thread. We pulled ourselves together at half time, came out well again and showed character in the second half. Basically, we played well today, but through a few errors of our own making we weren’t rewarded, so the draw is a fair result.
Dirk Schuster: It was a wild and spectacular game which flowed back and forth. HSV were in the game more from the first minute, we were too passive and didn’t defend well enough from the front. We then adjusted a bit better, and got the equaliser and then took the lead. Boyd also did well for the goal to make it 3-1. Then came the two goals we conceded. The 3-3 is most annoying for Krahl, but everyone makes mistakes and up until then he was playing a good hand. There’s definitely no blame there.
