Vagnoman and Germany U21s reach final of U21 EUROs
Germany U21s are through to the final of the U21 European Championship, after a 2-1 win in the semi-finals against the Netherlands. Josha Vagnoman did not feature, but can look forward to facing Portugal in the final.
Josha Vagnoman and Germany U21s are through to the final of the U21 EUROs, after victory in the semi-finals on Thursday evening (3rd June). Florian Wirtz scored a brace as the U21s beat the Netherlands 2-1 in order to secure their place in the final. The 18-year-old attacker opened the scoring after just 30 seconds, before adding a second seven minutes later. Germany were dominant for much of the match, with the Netherlands only managing to get one back through Perr Schuurs in the 67th minute.
Vagnoman was an unused substitute for the semi-final. The midfielder had previously started all three group stage matches, as well as the quarterfinal, before being rested in the semis by head coach Stefan Kuntz. After playing the full 90 minutes on Monday night against Denmark—Vagnoman’s first full shift since his injury—he was unable to take part in the final training session ahead of the semi-final due to minor muscle issues. Vagnoman and Germany can now look forward to taking on Portugal in the final on Sunday (6th June, 21:00 CEST). Portugal advanced to the final with a 1-0 win over Spain.
