Training and squad update from the Volkspark
The HSV players began a new week of training on Wednesday. Coach Merlin Polzin was without several players as preparations began for the next game.
Merlin Polzin and his coaching team have a short week of training ahead of them before the away game against SSV Ulm on Saturday. Having played SV Darmstadt 98 last Sunday, the players used the day after to recover and, as is usually the case, had no training two days after the match. The group was therefore back together on Wednesday to start preparations for the clash with the promoted side. HSV will make their way down south on Friday after the final training session.
The first of the three training sessions before Saturday’s game saw coach Polzin without several players. The worst news of the day was goalkeeper Matheo Raab’s injury – the shot-stopper has broken his hand and will be out for several months. Jean-Luc Dompe and Sebastian Schonlau were also not on the pitch as they were rested, instead training individually indoors. Robert Glatzel, Ludovit Reis and Valon Zumberi are still completing their rehabilitation work after their respective injuries, while goalkeepers Tom Mickel (cold) and Hannes Hermann (groin) were also absent. However, Jonas Meffert (arm) and Dennis Hadzikadunic (cold) were at least able to complete most of training. Due to the number of absentees within the first team, youngsters Colin Poppelbaum, Luis Klatte (both goalkeepers), Bilal Yalcinkaya, Otto Stange, Lukas Bornschein, Luis Seifert and Joel Agyekum were all involved in the session, which included drills in tight spaces and then 11v11 exercises.
