HSV fans selling out stadiums
With record attendance for second-tier clubs in Europe, sold-out away ends en masse and no signs of things slowing down, HSV fans have shown truly incredible support in 2018.
“We will always be there, near or far, forever and ever…” These words are like a battle cry for HSV fans, and they hold a lot of truth too, as HSV fans have demonstrated so often this season. Before the campaign even began, 25,000 season tickets had already been sold –as many as in the Bundesliga. Despite the turbulence of the last 12 months, the fans’ loyalty remained unaffected for the new season.
Four-and-a-half months and nine home games later, HSV have an average home attendance of 50,210 – the best across all second-tier sides in Europe. In addition to this incredible figure, two home matches this season have completely sold-out: Holstein Kiel and FC St. Pauli. Another statistic that will please the club representatives is the ‘No-Show Quota’, which is the number of people who have a matchday ticket or season ticket, but don’t show up to the game. “The ‘No-Show Quota’ has reduced by 17 percent in comparison to last season. This is incredibly positive news,” explained Kai Voreste, director for ticketing.
Fans snap up away tickets
HSV fans have also backed their team in numbers on the road. Whether in Dresden, Fürth, Wiesbaden or Ingolstadt, the HSV fans followed their team no matter where or when the games took place. Tickets for away games were often completely sold out within minutes of going on sale, with two games in particular standing out. More than 4,000 HSV supporters travelled to Sandhausen, a town with a population of 15,000 people, to create a home-like atmosphere at the Hartwaldstadion. The team were also backed by 4,500 away fans on a Friday night in Duisburg, with HSV fans making up 10 per cent of the enitre stadium capacity.
There seems to be no end to this incredible support with the first away game of 2019 at Bielefeld having been already sold out. On behalf of everyone at HSV, we want to want to say a huge thank you for your incredible support. Nur der HSV!
