2-0 friendly victory for HSV against Alemannia Aachen
During their training camp in Turkey, the Rothosen emerged victorious against 3. Liga outfit Alemannia Aachen. Emir Sahiti and Bakery Jatta netted to seal the win in HSV’s first friendly of the calendar year.
Hamburger SV won their first friendly of the new year 2-0 against Alemannia Aachen on Monday (6th January). The Rothosen faced off against the third-tier side as part of their training camp in Belek, Turkey, where Alemannia are also preparing for the second half of the season. The 2-0 victory came courtesy of goals from Emir Sahiti and Bakery Jatta.
HSV’s first match of 2025 kicked off at 13:30 local time (11:30 CET) at the Arcadia Sport Complex, and the Rothosen looked keen to impress. Setting up in a 4-3-3 formation, they started well in their opening fixture of the year and eventually took an early lead. In the 17th minute, Pherai’s pass found Sahiti on the edge of the box who curled it magnificently into the corner to make it 1-0 to HSV. Sahiti helped his team to dominate proceedings after his opener, looking particularly impressive in possession with some fantastic combination play. His excellence in the build-up came to nought, however, with HSV unable to create any more threats in the final third. Aachen started to grow into the game and create chances of their own, with Heuer-Fernandes called into action from a corner shortly before the interval to keep his side’s lead intact. The 3. Liga side were unable to follow their best chance of the game up with a goal, though, and the scoreline remained 1-0 at the end of the first 45.
After the break, HSV lined up for the second half with a completely new team. Head coach Melin Polzin wanted to give as many players minutes – and the opportunity to impress - as possible. Jatta seized this chance with both hands after replacing goalscorer Sahiti on the right wing. He shone in the second half and eventually followed in Sahiti’s footsteps by extending the Rothosen’s lead. A wonderful cross-field pass from Muheim took out the entire Aachen defence and paved the way for Jatta to score, as the winger added HSV’s second goal of the afternoon just before the hour mark.
HSV continued to set the tone at both ends of the pitch against a resolute Aachen side, who have the fourth-best defensive record in the 3. Liga. However, the Rothosen were unable to carve out any further clear-cut opportunities. The score remained the same up until the final whistle, and HSV came away from the match with a well-deserved 2-0 victory after a convincing display in their first friendly of their winter training camp. They were without Selke and Dompe, whose workloads were being managed, and captain Schonlau who remained in Hamburg to recover from illness for the victory.
