Ludovit Reis joins Hamburger SV
The 21-year-old midfielder joins the Rothosen from FC Barcelona and has signed a four-year deal.
After adding Jonas Meffert to the roster, HSV have announced another new signing, with Ludovit Reis joining the club. The 21-year-old Dutchman with Slovakian roots has been contracted to Barcelona since 2019 but spent last season on loan at Bundesliga 2 side, VfL Osnabrück. Now, the U21 international has agreed to join the Rothosen, signing a four-year contract until summer 2025.
“Ludovit is a very variable midfielder who, in addition to his technical and tactical abilities, is able to read the game. Despite his young age, he has been able to pick up experience at both the domestic and international level. His winning mentality and ability to deal with pressure are both of benefit to our squad,” said HSV sporting director Michael Mutzel.
100 competitive appearances combined for Groningen, Barcelona reserves and Osnabrück
Reis is also eager to get started at his new club. “I’m very happy that I’ve been able to complete my move here. The fans and the club gave me a good feeling right away, and my discussions with Tim Walter were very promising,” he said. “I want to help the team and the club with my aggressive, box-to-box style of play.”
Ludovit Reis was born on 1st June, 2000, in Haarlem, just outside of Amsterdam in the Netherlands. He began playing football for his local club, SV Hoofddorp. At 15, he joined FC Groningen, where he moved through the ranks of the club’s youth sides. At age 17, Reis made his professional debut for Groningen on 21st September, 2017, going on to make a further 49 appearances (2 goals, 2 assists) until summer 2019. He then joined FC Barcelona. During his debut season in Spain, Reis trained with the first team and made 25 appearances for the reserves before joining VfL Osnabrück on loan in October 2020. He quickly became a key player for VfL, appearing in 27 of a possible 31 second-division games (1 goal, 1 assist). Reis has also played a combined 20 times for the Netherlands U19s (9 games) and U21s (11). Reis took part in the relegation play-off games against FC Ingolstadt instead of featuring in this summer’s U21 EUROs, but was unable to prevent Osnabrück’s relegation to the 3. Liga. Reis will now be looking to prove himself at HSV.
