HSV win friendly 5-2 at VfB Lübeck thanks to Dompe hat-trick
The Rothosen trailed 2-0 at the break against the fourth-division side, but came from behind in the second half to win 5-2 at the Lohmühle, with Dompe bagging a hat-trick.
Hamburger SV won their third pre-season friendly ahead of the 2024/25 season 5-2 at neighbours up north VfB Lübeck. 10,100 fans were at a sold-out Lohmühle for the clash. The home team started brightly and went into the break 2-0 up, only for HSV to turn the game on its head in the second half. A Dompe hat-trick between the 67th and 88th minute secured a 5-2 victory for the Rothosen.
Both clubs were naturally looking to test out their own form, get some match practice under their belt, work on patterns and take another step towards being ready for the new season. Aside from this though, the close relationship between the clubs and the respective fan bases was also a focus of Saturday’s game. The two clubs also collected money for charity alongside their fans.
Seven goals, Dompe hat-trick and 10,000 fans
The 10,100 fans at a sold-out Stadion an der Lohmühle certainly got their money’s worth. The home fans would have particularly enjoyed the start to the game, which saw their players make life difficult for the Rothosen by pressing them early in possession. The hosts even took the lead from the spot in the 28th minute, Bukusu the goalscorer. After Jatta missed a clear-cut chance for HSV (30’), the first half ended with Wahl doubling Lübeck’s lead (45’).
The Rothosen improved for the second half and played a lot better in the final third. Pherai initially hit the bar, but a Ramos header (52’) and a left-footed strike from Karabec (63’) drew HSV level. Coach Baumgart subsequently made nine changes in the 64th minute. One of the new faces was Dompe and he stole the show in the final 25 minutes, securing the victory with a hat-trick. The French winger backed up his impressive display last night at SV Drochtersen/Assel, impressing the fans at the Lohmühle with his fantastic goals. “We took a while to get going,” analysed coach Baumgart. “I think we were lacking a bit of freshness after the friendly less than 24 hours ago. We showed a good reaction and a good performance in the second half and made it a successful test in the end.”
