HSV sign Jonas Meffert

Jonas Meffert is the club’s second summer signing ahead of the 2021/22 campaign. The 26-year-old defensive midfielder has joined the club from league rivals Holstein Kiel, signing a three-year contract with the Rothosen. Meffert, who featured in every single Bundesliga 2 game for Kiel last season, successfully completed his medical at the UKE Athleticum on Monday morning before signing his new contract at the Volksparkstadion. "Jonas is a reliable player and a good runner that knows how to play strategically to his strengths in the midfield. He is always available to receive a pass, wants the ball and doesn’t go hiding. His composure in possession and calm nature on the pitch will benefit our team and our midfield," said sporting director Michael Mutzel. Jonas Boldt added: "I have been closely following Jonas’s development since his younger years and despite spells at various clubs we always kept an eye on each other. I am very pleased that he has been able to develop, particularly as a person. He’s at the prime age for a footballer and I am sure he can take another step at HSV, helping us with his qualities in the process."
 
Meffert himself is also excited to get started in Hamburg on Wednesday: "I had really good chats with the club directors, also with the new coach, they all presented me with a plan, which I could fully relate to. I have a lot of great associations with this club and I am already looking forward to working with the team to achieve our targets," said Meffert, looking ahead to his new challenge.
