4:5 - HSV with a curious test match defeat
In the end, Hamburg lost the test match against the Danish first division team Viborg FF 4:5, whereby not only the result, but above all the way it came about was extremely curious.
Hamburger SV lost their test match against the Danish first division team Viborg FF 4:5 on Thursday (24 March). The curious thing was that the Reds were already 5-0 down after a collectively weak first half, but almost managed to turn the game into a draw after the break, with Robert Glatzel scoring a flawless hat-trick within nine minutes of coming on as a substitute.
Two fundamentally different halves
In the penultimate minute of the game, a murmur went through the small gathering of spectators around the training ground. At that moment, the Hamburg team missed the chance to equalise in this curious test match, which had left many perplexed at the beginning. It was difficult to explain the weak performance of the HSV team, which was undoubtedly weakened by illness, injuries and national team absences.
And so the half-time break lasted a little longer than usual, because coach Tim Walter needed to talk. But this speech, the tactical adjustments and the personnel changes paid off, because after the change of sides, only the Hamburg team, which had been clearly inferior in the first half, played, turning a 0:5 into a 4:5 within 25 minutes, but then had a bit of bad luck in the final minutes and thus only just missed the equaliser. Nevertheless, Walter was satisfied with the performance in the second half: "Then we had the order, speed and force that we had planned from the beginning. In that respect, it was an informative test."
