2:0! HSV win against Whitecaps to end training camp
Positive end: HSV wins 2-0 against the Vancouver Whitecaps on the last day of the training camp thanks to a brace from Robert Glatzel.
Hamburger SV won their final test match of the Spain training camp against the Vancouver Whitecaps with 2:0 on Wednesday (18 January). At the Marbella Football Center, Robert Glatzel scored a brace (4th, 60th) to give a deserved victory to a match-happy Hamburg side that will head home on Thursday.
HSV coach Tim Walter fielded a first eleven against the Canadian MLS club that would definitely have starting eleven potential in the opener against Eintracht Braunschweig in a week and a half. Newcomer Montero also played from the start, made a confident impression in central defence and also saw the Rothosen take the lead early on. Glatzel was able to head home the first promising Hamburg attack after Heyer's cross to make it 1:0 (4th) and thus laid the foundation for a very respectable first half for HSV. A lot of ball possession, good ball relays and some good attacks - especially on the right side - dominated the picture, which was only slightly marred by the failure to score the second goal. Dompé and Glatzel both narrowly missed the 2:0, which would have better reflected the balance of power in the first half, but Hamburg went into the break with a slim lead.
Montero and Katterbach celebrate HSV debut
After the change of ends, the Reds had to survive two tricky defensive situations, but otherwise kept control of the game and added to their tally after an hour. After a ball was won by Muheim, things went very quickly and Glatzel, in his best centre-forward style, completed the perfectly executed counter-attack down the left wing to make it 2:0. Immediately after this goal, Walter made a change, which, as expected, slowed down the flow of the Hamburg team, but did not change their superiority. They were denied a third goal when Königsdörffer hit the crossbar, but even so, after 90 very committed minutes, the training camp ended on a positive note, with newcomers Javi Montero and Noah Katterbach making their debuts for the Rothosen.
