1:1 - Draw in topspiel at Darmstadt 98
HSV drew 1-1 with league leader Darmstadt 98 in the top match of the 22nd matchday. Königsdörffer's early 1:0 was equalised by Stojilkovic shortly before the end.
Hamburger SV earned a point in the top match at league leader Darmstadt 98 on Saturday (25 February). Ransford Königsdörffer had already given HSV the lead in the 5th minute, but the home side became stronger and stronger and came very close to equalising in the first half. In the second half, HSV again had the better phase, but Darmstadt came back and scored in the 81st minute through substitute Filip Stojilkovic to make it 1-1.
A dream start for HSV ...
Coach Tim Walter made a change to his starting eleven shortly before the game, as Jatta had arrived late for the team meeting. Königsdörffer took his place - and how! Just five minutes had elapsed when HSV launched a lightning-quick and clean attack, which Königsdörffer completed ice-cold after a dream pass from Heyer to make it 1:0. It was a perfect start for the Reds, who were then confronted with several dangerous attacks from the very aggressive and attack-minded home side. In addition, a number of dangerous standards flew through the Hamburg penalty area, which was really ablaze at one point shortly before half-time. After Muheim had lost the ball, Tietz had served Honsak, who had run in, but from close range only hit the inside of the post, so that Heuer Fernandes could just scrape the ball off the line. It was the best chance of the Lilies, who attacked early in the first half, had more possession and also had the majority of the goal attempts. However, HSV went into the break with a 1-0 lead, having been defensively compact for the most part and especially ice-cold up front.
... and a just draw
After the change of ends, HSV initially had the momentum on their side. The Reds came out of the dressing room bright and alert, were immediately there and shifted the game into the home side's half. Benes, Reis and Dompe had three good chances within a few minutes, but as in the first half, the Lilien were able to work their way back into the game. After about an hour, Darmstadt made some offensive changes and the new players Bennetts and Stojilkovic created a lot of momentum, so that HSV now had to defend more. The team did this job well and reliably, but the Reds were not able to stop the new Darmstadt force one hundred percent, so that a counterattack after an actually very promising Hamburg attack, including a turbo sprint and finish by the substituted Stojilkovic, brought about the 1-1 equaliser in the 81st minute. It was the last big excitement of these very intense 90 minutes, which finally found a fair result with the draw, even if the Rothosen were naturally annoyed about not having taken the lead over time and having reduced the gap to the league leaders.
