0-0 - Goalless draw in Northern Duel
HSV and Holstein Kiel ends 0-0 in a sold out Volksparkstadion. Good chances in the first half were not enough for HSV to win six in a row at home.
Hamburger SV drew goalless with Holstein Kiel in their matchday 25 home game on Saturday (18 March). Especially in the first half, the Reds had some good chances to score, but Glatzel & Co. were not in league with luck on this day. And so, after 90 minutes, the scoreboard showed two big zeros, which the guests from the Fjord could live with better than the home side.
Good chances ...
HSV coach Tim Walter, who watched the game from the stands due to his suspension, made two changes to his team: Captain Schonlau returned to central defence after recovering from an ankle injury and Königsdörffer replaced Benes in midfield. And after a quarter of an hour, the next change followed, as Muheim had to go off injured and Katterbach came on for him. At this point, the Reds had already earned a corner ratio of 10:1 and had three top chances through Glatzel, Jatta and Glatzel again. The only problem: In front of goal, the Hamburg team was not able to strike ice-cold and also lacked the final power in the penalty area. Thus, there were many penalty area scenes for the oppressively superior HSV, but no goal. That would have been a near miss on the other side, when Holtby suddenly appeared free in front of Heuer Fernandes, but he was able to thwart Kiel's first chance. So it went into the break goalless.
... but no goals
After the break, HSV remained the dominant team with more possession, but Kiel defended deep, hardly allowed any space and made it very difficult for HSV to get into good finishing positions. The visitors pulled the plug on the game a bit, there were hardly any fast-paced attacks or high-calibre penalty area scenes to be seen. Instead, HSV played around the Kiel penalty area again and again in search of the one decisive gap. However, there was no such gap, as Kiel hardly left their own defence, apart from two counterattacks via Reese, both of which Schonlau was able to defend at the last second. And so it was on a knife edge into the final phase and finally into injury time, in which Jatta and Glatzel with their co-production once again had the great final chord on their feet, but Kiel keeper Himmelmann also thwarted this last chance and thus kept the 0:0.
