HSV duo reach U21 EURO quarterfinals
A goalless draw against Romania was enough to confirm a place in the knockout stages of the U21 European Championship for Germany. Stephan Ambrosius and Josha Vagnoman travelled back to Hamburg after the game on Tuesday night.
Stephan Ambrosius and Josha Vagnoman returned to Hamburg on Tuesday night fresh from success with Germany’s U21 national team. The HSV duo booked their place in the quarterfinal of the U21 European Championship in Hungary and Slovenia. Their 0-0 draw against Romania was enough to finish second in the group behind the Netherlands U21s. Just like in the first two group games, Josha Vagnoman was in the starting XI for Germany and played the full 90 minutes. Stephan Ambrosius didn’t get any game time, but naturally joined in the celebrations with the rest of the squad.
After the game, the HSV boys travelled back to Cologne from Budapest with the rest of the team. HSV team manager Lennart Coerdt picked the pair up from the airport and drove them back to Hamburg. They will now go straight back to work at the Volksparkstadion today (Wednesday) and will both be hoping to be back with the Germany U21 squad at the end of May when the knockout stages of the tournament begin. Until then, their success on the international stage is sure to give them a boost for the rest of the season with HSV.
